4Teen, Fifteen, 6Teen, 17

May 14th

So today for the first time I participated in the Walk to End Lupus at the South Street Seaport in New York City. I walked with my brother, nephews, and sisters--one of whom is currently battling Lupus. So the walk was symbolic for me in more ways than one. The walk itself is 3.1 miles, starts at south street port, loops around battery park, and ends by returning to the seaport to complete the walk. It was lots of fun with people cheering and taking pictures along the way. I was also able to see people's shirts and signs of who they were walking for and why. My family and I concluded the walk with lunch and we surprised my sister at the end with various colored roses.

That night I headed out with a few friends, my sister, and cousin to celebrate my upcoming birthday. The new things for the night were 1) my outfit which was a nude color sheer see thru dress. Underneath I wore a nude bra and panties. I also had on a new cute necklace and earrings (I'll attach pictures of my outfit and jewelry later). 2) I decided to get car service for the night so I could pick up all my friends so that we could all get to the club at the same time and so that everyone could get drunk lol. 3) We went to 2 venues that night Kinanm Lounge where my official birthday party was held but I've been there before. The second place we went to was called Remedy which I have never been to before. I was already drunk by the time we got there but I had a good time--from what I can remember lol.

May 15
Of course this wouldn't be a true "new" post without me mentioning food lol. On Saturday my family and I went to Six Flags as part of my birthday weekend celebration but I've been there before so that's not new to me. On the way back from six flags we went to Wawa instead of buying expensive food in the park. I had the buffalo chicken cheesesteak and it was amazing. For those of you who aren't familiar Wawa is a convenience store/gas station chain located in the North East US with locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Florida. They have an extensive food menu and it's all really good.

May 16 -Happy birthday to me
So today I turned 28! Happy birthday to me. To celebrate I went to Houlihan's (which I've never been to before) and had dinner with my family. I must say when I first looked at the menu before going there there were lots of good things I saw that I would have wanted to try, but when I got there I wasn't too impressed. Maybe I was hungry when I initially looked at the menu. I went with shrimp alfredo and it was ok. What really impressed me was their caramel nut crunch pie which is crushed snickers, vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, and fudge sauce served in an oreo and peanut crust. It was delicious and I highly recommend it if you happen to visit Houlihan's.

May 17 -The birthday celebration continues
So today my friend took me to this Mexican restaurant called Mesita to celebrate my birthday. It also happened to be taco tuesday and they had specials. I had never heard of this restaurant before and it's crazy because it's not far from my house and I have been within the vicinity of it at other bars and restaurants but I just never noticed it. I had their special drink called Mesita-Gria which has spanish red wine, hennessy, grand marnier, passion fruit puree, mixed berry puree, agave nectar, pineapple, and orange juice. What sets this sangria apart from others is their use of premium coganc and the drink itself was only $10 which is good for having premium liquor in it. To eat I had a chicken, shrimp, and beef taco. Although they were good I wasn't really digging the corn tortilla they served it in because it was very heavy and took away from the flavor of the food.

May 12
So today I did some grocery shopping at Stop & Shop in a location I've never been to. I'm glad I went here instead of the usual supermarket in my town because I knew there would be a greater variety of items, better, and more sales. I went to the store with the intention of buying items so I could make dinner. What I ended up purchasing was a bunch of veggies (2 heads of cauliflower, spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, and zoodles that were already spiraled) because they were on sale and some meat. I got shrimp, 2 packs of chicken, and something else I think that I'm forgetting. I didn't end up cooking anything for dinner that night--I actually forgot what I had for dinner that night--but I do want to find a good recipe for something I can make the zoodles with. Any suggestions?

May 13
Happy Friday the 13th. Luckily nothing bad happened today (at least not to me and anyone I know). Today I was able to work in a new location in Bethpage, NY. Even though I was only out there for a short time it was nice to see the area. There was a lot of businesses nearby and I was even going to get my nails done out there but it was cheaper to get it done in my area.

So the last 2 days weren't filled with exciting new things but I hope to make up for that this weekend. My birthday is on Monday (May 16th) so I plan to be on my worst behavior during this weekend's activities. As usual I'll keep you posted on what happens.

Eleven

May 11th
So instead of going to the library like I said I was going to I ended up going to Carle Place Diner at 1:30am. That happened because around 1am I get a call from my good friend asking what I was doing. I for once like a normal person was actually in bed laying down preparing to go to sleep. Instead of declining his offer to get coffee at 1am I said sure only because he's been calling me over the last week or so trying to hang out and show me his new car but I was always busy when he called. So he came and got me and we thought the diner in our town would be open (I always thought it was 24 hours like normal diners) but we were wrong. We drove some more and tried to find local places that were open but everything was closed. He knew Carle Place diner would be open so we headed there. Since I didn't have food on my mind I wasn't sure what to order. He was getting pancakes so that inspired me to go with breakfast food as well. Unfortunately they didn't have grits so I went with a coffee London which is coffee with Bailey's they served it with whipped cream & cinnamon sprinkled on top and it was very good. I also got a turkey bacon and egg sandwich. I ordered it with cheese but didn't put it on there it was ok though I didn't need the extra cheese calories. So we had a simple little breakfast date but it was nice. I was glad to finally spend some time with my friend.

The End.

Nine10

I'm still keeping this "new" thing going.

May 9th-I tried a new salmon recipe for dinner. Not only was it my first time trying the recipe it was also my first time broiling salmon. With that being said I think I over-broiled the salmon because when I took it out the oven the marinade was very "cajun" looking. Maybe the next time I attempt this one I'll bake it instead which is what a lot of people in the comments said they did as well as in other variations of this recipe.

May 10th-Today I went on my annual lunch date with a friend to celebrate our birthdays. I met her when we both worked for the same marketing company and they paired us up. We soon discovered that our birthdays are 1 day apart and so we went out that year (2011) to celebrate. We often made plans to meet up again but didn't do so till the following year around our birthdays. We then decided to make it a yearly thing. We went to a restaurant called Grillfire which I have technically been to before but I didn't eat anything. So eating at this restaurant was new to me. I had buffalo wings and a chopped grill chicken salad. Even though my meal was pretty basic the dressing they served it with was very good. I don't know what exactly it was but it tasted like a sweet ranch dressing. I actually asked for Italian but they didn't have that available, which was weird to me, but at least the alternative was good.

For tomorrow if I don't end up cooking anything new or going to a new place then I'm going to go to the library (yes libraries still exist, yes I'm actually going there, no I don't have an e-reader, yes I'm getting an actual hardcover or paperback book) and get some marketing books to read. I'll keep you posted on what really happens.

I'm Still Here

So this post is an update from the last one both to let you know that I'm still here writing and didn't give up and that since May 3rd I have continued to do new things daily. Here is the updated list of the new things.

May 4(May the 4th be with you)-- I tried Werther's Originals sugar free chocolate flavored chewy caramels. The story behind this is that I'm currently on a weight loss plan and on that plan I have to limit the amount of sugar I have so it's recommend that you have sugar free foods/drinks or use artificial sweeteners if you are trying to sweeten something. So I happened to stumble upon the candy at the supermarket (I wasn't even in there trying to find sugar free candy) and since I love caramel and chocolate anyway and since it was sugar free I decided to buy it and try it. I actually did like the taste and it didn't taste like sugar free candy.

May 5 (Cinco de Mayo)--I was able to visit/work 2 new bars in Huntington (NY) which is an area I have been to but never hung out at. The first bar was called Huntington Village Tavern which is a fun bar because they have darts, a pool table, and tv's showcasing daily sporting events. It was definitely a spot the locals go to and a place that gives me the "everybody knows your name vibe."
The second place was Christopher's which is a restaurant & bar. The food smelled really good and everyone seemed to be having a good time. The music was also really good. They even have an outdoor patio bar and smoking area complete with a beer ball machine and stuffed animal vending machine. I enjoyed my time there but I feel that the outdoor patio experience is probably better in the summer time when the bar out there is actually open and there's more people.

May 6th-This day was filled with a few firsts one of them being driving my car to Philly with my friend (road trip!). Some other firsts were staying at a hotel in Center City Philadelphia, going to Fojo de Chão (the food was delicious. I really liked the chicken, the chicken wrapped in bacon, and the kale), and going to Rumor nightclub. So to say the least this day and my belly were stuffed with new and exciting things.

May 7th-Yesterday's activities are hard to top but I still had fun on this day also. I bought and tried Starbust Gummiburst candy. Just like the Werther's I had never seen them before and they looked good so I figured what the heck? I also participated in my first Temple University Alumni Weekend activity which was a small meet and greet at a campus pizza place. There was free food and drinks and it was also the last event before the main event of the night which was the Dîner en Cherry. Long story short during alumni weekend there's events all weekend long leading up to the Dîner en Cherry. During these events they give you clues about where the dinner for that year is being held and at the pizza meet and greet they gave you the last clue and revealed the dinner location for that year.

May 8th (Happy Mother's Day)--Today was my first day going to Reading Terminal Market (pronounced redding for those who aren't familiar with it) and eating at the Down Home Diner. I was impressed with how many little restaurant and shops are in there, it's like a huge village in this relatively small building but surprisingly it wasn't overcrowded or cramped. The next time I'm in Philly I want to go to Reading Terminal Market several more times and take advantage of the food choices and do some light shopping from the vendors selling various items. I'm kind of mad at my college self for never taking advantage and visiting it before. Today was also my first time driving by myself from Philly back to New York. The trip wasn't bad and I didn't really hit traffic until I of course got back into New York, but I'm glad I made it back safely.

Let's see what these other 22 days have in store for me.

I'm Back (At least for now)

This blog fell into the same category of other things in my life in which I was excited about first and then gradually lost interest in unfortunately. I decided to write a post today for 2 reasons. 1. because I'm currently taking an Intro to Web Design course (part of the Digital Adverting Certificate program I mentioned in my Introduction post) and had begun thinking about how my blog was doing, all alone and neglected lol. Looking at it now I also think the design and color scheme could use a lot of work lol. The second reason I decided to post is because it's my birthday month and I told myself that for each day of this month (31) I would do something new each day. I went back and forth on this decision because I couldn't really think of 31 new things to do without having to spend money or go somewhere. I so far have managed to prove myself wrong and I've done 3 new things in 3 days. The "new" things I've done are listed below but please note that they're not very exciting.

May 1st- I tried a new shrimp recipe. It's a very simple and easy but it was new to me.
May 2nd-I took the stairs for the first time instead of the elevator at my doctor's office
May 3rd-I sauteed cabbage for the first time and it was delicious and easy

Another thing I want you to note is that I like food and eating. So a lot of these new things are probably going to be food related.

I really hope I can keep this up for another 28 days and I really want to do some fun and exciting things as the day goes on. I also hope I keep blogging as well.

But with anything else in life we'll just have to wait and see how it goes.

Enjoy!
