It's The Little Things

I am literally fighting to stay awake as I write this but I've been enjoying blogging so much that I really wanted to post or at least start a post and publish it later. For me Thursday was a good day (cue Ice Cube Today Was A Good Day) and I want to share why it went so well so I'll recap all the good moments of my day.

#1 I remembered to set my alarm from the night before so good moment 1 is waking up and waking up on time. As a  result of this I was able to take my time getting ready for work and eating my breakfast like a normal person instead of like a chicken with its head cut off.

#2 Is a branch off from #1 in that I was able to make the earlier train and get to work on time instead of 15 minutes late and I got a seat on the train.

#3 The weather was beautiful; sunny and warm.

#4 I decided to eat lunch outside and take advantage of the beautiful weather right outside of the Flatiron building. I was lucky enough to get a seat. At a table. By myself. This was really the highlight of my day.

We get so caught up in the activities of daily life and the stresses that come with it we often forget to take time to enjoy the little things. I'm going to give you all a challenge. This is something else I learned and implemented into my daily life once I started my weight loss program. The challenge is to have 5 minutes of quiet time for yourself everyday. You may be thinking that 5 minutes is too much and you don't have time but let me break it down this way. There are 1,440 minutes in each day. 5 minutes out of that 1,440 is 0.003. So now ask yourself if you have less than 1% of your day for yourself to have some quiet time? I thought as much. Your quiet time can be anything from turning off your cellphone or computer and meditating, enjoying a cup/cone of your favorite ice cream, or listening and singing/dancing crazy to your favorite song. Whatever it is own it and have fun with it because you deserve it.

Mango Raspberry Soft Serve

I am in the second week of transition since reaching my goal weight on April 1st. Transition means that I'm incrementally adding back all of the food groups (grains, dairy, and fruit) that I omitted at the start of the Take Shape for Life Program. The second week of transition lets me add 1/2 cup of fruits into my diet. With that being said all along this journey I've tried new recipes so I didn't get bored with the food. Today was no different. For my dessert I had mango soft serve and added raspberries to make it an extra sweet treat. I'll list the recipe and pics for anyone who wants to try it.
Ingredients
1 packet mango soft serve
1/4 cup raspberries
1/2 cup ice
2 oz. water

Step 1

Blend the ice for 30 seconds or until there are no more chunks in the ice

Step 2

Add the water, packet of ice, and raspberries (leave out a few for topping) and blend to desired consistency. Garnish with remaining raspberries.

Step 3

Enjoy!

Introduction

Before I introduce myself let me be frank. I only created this blog because I had to. It was one of the first assignments we had for my Intro to Social Media Marketing class. It's an online only course taught via WebEx and it's one of 6 courses offered by Temple University as part of their Digital Advertising Certificate program which I'm currently pursing. But instead of creating the blog just for the purpose of getting credit and completing the assignment I'm gonna step outside of my comfort zone and have a little fun with this.

My name is Kimberly John, I'm 26 years old, I was raised and currently live in Freeport, NY with my family, and I have my Bachelors of Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Temple. I'm a full time Grassroots Ambassador for Verizon FiOS, a part-time "student" at Temple, and  I'm also a part-time health coach with the Take Shape for Life Company. Sounds like a lot but I'm fortunate enough to make it work for me.

My decision to be a health coach started back in January when I was at the recreation center working out intensely with my personal trainer 4x/week and had began seeing these posters about a free 12 week health transformation program. I was already working out to lose weight (and paying for it) so I figured if there was something that was going to help me lose weight and it was free then I should definitely check it out.

It was there that I met my health coach Corrine Potter and began incrementally learning habits of health that would lead to optimal health and weight loss. I was taking heed of what I learned at the meetings and implementing them into my everyday life while I continued to workout intensely and slowly lose weight.

At the beginning of March I decided to take the extra step and make a lifestyle change by getting on the Take Shape for Life Plan. I started on March 9th, 2015 and in 3 weeks I lost 12 pounds. After I saw how much weight I lost and how quickly I decided to pay it forward and on March 13th I became a health coach to help people just like me.

I'm going to be giving you all a peek into my life and what it is I do as a health coach. I'll be posting meals that I'm having on a particular day, recipes, client transformations, health tips, and more. Feel free to follow me on instagram @SlimWitKim

Stay tuned and I hope you enjoy Kim's  Healthy Habits.
